How to reduce space between title, blog description and content in Blogger?

There are many free templates that we use in blogger. Many of them are designed well to suit to our casual blogging need. However, sometimes you may want to make some changes in your blogger blog. Here is a simple way to adjust gap between your blog title and the blog description or between the blog description & the main content.

Before you make any changes in your blog's default structure, it is highly recommended to take back up of your blog template and blog data. This is to avoid any sort of loss that may happen in case you make any mistake in the process. You can very well restore your original template in case you experience any issue in between.

Let us now proceed with the steps.
  • Login to your blogger account and then click on Design link shown at the top. You will find "Template" link at the left. Click on that link and then click on "Edit HTML" tab.
  • This will open blog template's HTML sheet. Press Ctrl and F button on your keyboard to open search box inside the HTML screen.
  • Type .header h1 inside the search box and press Enter button to search.  There you will find the following code below .header h1.Now add margin-bottom: -20px;  just below the color code but before the "text-shadow" code as shown here below.

Header h1 {
font: $(header.font)
color: $(header.text.color);
margin-bottom: -20px;
text-shadow: 0 0 $(title.shadow.spread) #000000;
  • Save the template and go back and view the blog. You will find the gap is reduced between the blog title and the description now. You can alter this gap as per your requirement by changing the margin-bottom value to -10px or -15px.
To reduce the gap between the blog description and the main content, follow the procedures mentioned below.
  • Press Ctrl and F button and search for .Header .description {  line in the HTML code. Now add margin-bottom: -20px; or a code with a value of your choice below the color: $(description.text.color); line as shown below.
 .Header .description {
  font-size: $(description.text.size);
  color: $(description.text.color);
  margin-bottom: -20px;
  • Click on "Save Template" tab. Go back and see your blog. You will find the difference now. If the space selected is not right as per your wish, then go back and try different values for margin-bottom until you are satisfied with it.

Blogger offers a lot of flexibility in blogging. This platform is very easy to use and understand. Anyone can learn how to blog on blogger without much efforts as it requires no technical knowledge.
Default Archives in Blogger is usually listed in period wise; that is monthly, weekly or daily. Hence, all posts will be not seen a collapsed and only those posts that comes under  current month or week ( irrespective of the settings) would be visible by default. This will sometimes affect readership of articles   posted in the previous months.

How to create an archive that shows all the posts?
Here is way to list titles of all posts shown on blogger posts so that readers can find all important post titles from their current page. Once done with this new archive, we can remove the default archive from blog.

Here is the set up process.
  1. Create customized feed in feedburner.com.
  2. Create feed redirection on blogger blog.
  3. Now go to 'Publisize' tab on the screen
  4. Select Buzz Bosst. Move down the screen and click 'Activate'
  5. Choose all required information, such as date, favicon, Display link etc. Select the following choices.
  6. Choose Number of items to display as 'All'
  7. Check box for Display feed title, which will enable titles of all posts to be displayed
  8. Choose if you want to display favicon or not.
  9. Now, select or deselect check other boxes as per your requirements.
  10. Once finished, click Save button to save your choices. Move up to the top to find the code for the widget.
  11. Choose Blogger option from the drop down menu and then click Go button to redirect to the blogger site. Log in to your blogger account.
The code will be automatically placed in your blog. Position of this code can be changed by dragging the widget to the appropriate place. You can place this code manually as well. For that, you need to copy the code first and then paste inside the widget in blogger blog layout.

When finished, Save the template. Click View button to see your blog side bar appear now. You can see all your post titles neatly listed inside the sidebar.

When there are a large number of posts in a blog, then we need to restrict the number of post titles that needs to be shown. It is better to choose those posts titles that are relevant to our blog niche to be shown on the side bars.  You can customize this archive as per the requirement so nothing to worry about it.

As we Google search results shows only the first sixty-six characters of any site title.
